Total Commander: How to remove duplicate files.

1. Open Total Commander:


Launch Total Commander on your computer.

2. Access the Search Tool:


  • Click on Commands in the menu bar.
  • Select Search in Separate Process... from the dropdown menu. This opens the search window

3. Configure Search for Duplicate Files:


  • In the search window, go to the General tab.
  • Enter * in the Search for field to search for all files, or specify a particular file type if needed.
  • In the Search in field, specify the directories you want to search. You can search in multiple directories by separating them with a semicolon.

4. Enable Duplicate Search:


  • Go to the Advanced tab.
  • Check the option Find duplicate files.
  • Choose to find duplicates by Same name, Same size, or Same contents. For a thorough search, select Same contents.

5. Start the Search:


  • Click the Start search button to begin the process.
  • The search may take some time, depending on the number of files and the size of the directories.

6. Feed to Listbox:


  • Once the search is complete, click the Feed to listbox button at the bottom of the search window.
  • This will transfer the search results to a listbox in Total Commander.

7. Mark Duplicate Files for Deletion:


  • In the listbox, go to the Mark menu.
  • Select Select Group... from the dropdown menu.
  • In the Select Group dialog, choose the appropriate selection method to mark the duplicate files. This can include selecting by name, extension, or other criteria.

8. Delete Marked Files:


  • After marking the files, go to the Files menu.
  • Select Delete to remove the marked duplicate files.
  • Confirm the deletion when prompted.
